Duration: 4 weeks full-time

Embark on an immersive 4-week Story to Screen programme and unlock your potential as a filmmaker!

Designed for passionate creatives eager to refine and expand their skills, this exclusive and intensive programme offers invaluable hands-on experience alongside expert mentorship.

Under the guidance of industry professionals, you’ll have the opportunity to develop a pitch for your own personal project, create four short films, and produce one professional-grade short film.

Through a combination of workshops and collaborative projects, you’ll master the essential skills of writing, directing, cinematography, and the business aspects of filmmaking. You’ll refine your storytelling techniques while navigating each stage of production—pre-production, production, and post-production—on the island of Malta.

With an intensive curriculum that journeys from script to screen, gain hands-on experience with every aspect of the filmmaking process.

This accredited programme is divided into 2 modules which cover the entire 4 weeks:  10ECTS.

Module 1: Foundations of Filmmaking 

Upon successful completion of module 1, students will be able to:

  • Understand how different framed shots affect the tone and emotion of a film.
  • Be familiar with the roles of different film departments.
  • Identify the key elements of a story and express them in a clear and effective manner during a pitching session. 
  • Define the implications of the creative choices made during the filmmaking process. 
  • Review understanding through discussion and explanation. 
  • Establish stronger communication skills.
  • Take informed creative decisions in the filmmaking process. 
  • Apply good directing techniques to actors. 
  • Understand how music affects the emotion and tone of a film. 
  • Review and establish breaking down a script to create a shot list.

 Module 2: Stages of Production 

Upon successful completion of module 2, students will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles of sound design.
  • Understand the basic principles of colour grading.
  • Familiarise oneself with the flow of communication through the different departments on set.
  • Be conversant with the design and development of shot lists, lighting sheets, and storyboards for a short film project.
  • Understand how budgets are allocated in the pre-production phase.
  • Understand the advantages and disadvantages of virtual production.
  • Solve problems that arise on set.
  • Demonstrate effective communication between departments on set.
  • Demonstrate assertion in their role on set.
  • Demonstrate confidence and knowledge in the role acquired on set.
  • Assess their environment on set to avoid injury.
  • Perform effectively in a team on set.
  • Carry out informed and creative decisions in the context of production design.
  • Recognise the limitations of equipment, location, budget, time, and human resources, and adapt accordingly to the situation.
